Cervejaria Ramiro: Lisbon’s Best Seafood Restaurant

Pandie Rating: 👍👍👍👍

Did I just say Lisbon’s best seafood restaurant? Nay, it’s THE BEST SEAFOOD RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD, so far. After traveling to more than 25 cities, I can bravely call it my best seafood meal ever in a restaurant. Not including my meals by the beach side or on a boat with freshly caught fish. That’s a different discussion altogether.

I’m so glad my brother studied in Lisbon for his student exchange or else I wouldn’t have dreamed of going to Portugal. Even though Magellan was technically Portuguese when he discovered my homeland, The Philippines, we Filipinos have such low exposure to Portuguese everything. Ask a random person walking down the road and I’ll bet ya he’ll probably ask if that’s Portugal is in Spain. I dare ye! haha

It’s such an underrated city. If you want to go to Europe on a budget, go to Lisbon. I guarantee you that you will get Asian prices but for European service and quality. It’s a beautiful and vibrant city that is often skipped by tourists which actually makes it more endearing to me. Everyone probably knows the “bad” economy they’re in but you can help them by boosting their tourism! The Portuguese are a friendly bunch.

Okay going back to food now! Did you know the sea-faring nation of Portugal consumes more fish than anywhere else in the world? They do know their seafood well so it’s no surprise that for me, the best seafood experience I’ve had was in Lisbon.

Cervejaria Ramiro or more commonly known as just Ramiro (Beerhouse), is Lisbon’s premier seafood restaurant. Lines can be seen forming along the street starting at 6PM. People with no reservations would patiently wait for their name to be called because they know that they’re in for a food-gasm that evening. It’s visited by both locals and tourists alike but only the well-versed tourists know about this.

12 Things We Wished We Knew Before Going To Tokyo

It’s the middle of May and since my last post, I’ve traveled to 2 countries – Japan and Thailand thus my lack of updates. My mind was still savoring the experiences. You know how it feels right? They do say that when you travel, leave only footprints and take only memories. We’re all here for responsible traveling!

Now presenting the second post of my Things We Wish We Knew series (check out Korea here). In this series, I stumble, try new and odd experiences and make mistakes for you so you guys don’t have to go through it (though feel free to make your own mistakes and learnings and share them here as well). I want to save you guys the trouble and hassle that goes with traveling.

12 Things We Wished We Knew Before Going To Tokyo

          ESTABLISHED 1856

1. Reserve the Best restaurants in advance (LIKE 3 MONTHS)

My Best Sushi Meal at Kyubey <3
Foodies would know that Tokyo has the most Michelin starred restaurants in the world. They also have the cheapest and most expensive ones in Tokyo. But it is VERY TRICKY to get a seat/reservation because Tokyo as a concrete jungle, only has limited space and so do their restaurants. It is cramped and there is only limited seating. You have to reserve 2 months AT LEAST to get a seat (I would suggest 3 months in advance to be sure) at the top restaurants. Now I didn’t follow this advice and lost the chance to eat at the best sushi restaurant at Sushi Saito. I did thankfully get a reservation at Kyubey because they had a lot of branches and Nakajima does not even accept reservations. For those that do not accept reservations, eat a light meal before going to you won’t starve while waiting through the LONG LINES.

After 3 days and 2 showings, I can now finally write a hopefully objective review (because yes, I am a Marvel fan) for Captain America: Civil War. Sure I may not have been able to watch it on opening night but I will watch it multiple times. In support of these wonderful films and actors, actresses, directors, crew.

I couldn’t decide if I liked this better than the first Russo brothers film, The Winter Soldier because after the first viewing, I felt like Civil War’s plot had gaping holes. I actually didn’t like the first part of the film with the whole Avengers starting in medias res once again. I felt like I missed watching the first episode of a TV show. Winter Soldier’s narrative was just stronger. The movie was fresh on its take as more of an espionage thriller than a superhero movie and with the surplus of superhero movie, your basic viewer could easily get bored.

Superhero movies now have the great task of trying to think out of the box to please average film goers and at the same time, cater to the dreams of every fanboy. It’s not easy but the Russo brothers have done it. So I have decided that I liked Winter Soldier’s narrative but I liked the heart and soul of Civil War more.
